We also spray emulsion and hot bitumen for single and two (2) coat seals. A single coat seal is a single pass over a surface with either Emulsion or Bitumen and spreading a one size aggregate/stone onto the product. How Does Asphalt Paving Work?
Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA) is a combination of approximately 95% stone, sand, or aggregate/gravel bound together by asphalt cement. It is heated aggregate, combined and mixed with the aggregate at around 160 degrees C at a batching facility. The mix is then loaded into trucks for transport to the paving site. The trucks dump the mixture into hoppers located at the front of the paving machines.
The asphalt is spread at predetermined heights and widths by paver/screed and then compacted using a heavy-duty industrial roller driven over the newly laid asphalt. Traffic is generally permitted on the pavement as soon as the pavement has cooled.
