Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA) is a combination of approximately 95% stone, sand, or aggregate/gravel bound together by asphalt cement. The mix is heated at around 160 degrees C at a batching facility, loaded into trucks, and transported to the paving site. The asphalt is then spread and compacted using a heavy-duty industrial roller, with traffic generally permitted on the pavement as soon as it has cooled.
