The Shire of Mount magnet covers a 13,877sqm area within the Mid West region of Western Australia, and has a population of approximately 750 people. Mount Magnet is the major town with the smaller towns of Lennonville and Boogardie also located in the Shire. Mount Magnet township is located 567 kilometres north of Perth at the junction of the Geraldton-Mount Magnet Rd and the Great Northern Highway.

During the peak of the gold rush in the Mid West area, Mount Magnet was known as the ‘hub of the Murchison’ and today it continues to provide services and facilities to the region. Mining and pastoral industries form the economic base of the Shire with tourism becoming an important contributor to the economy. There are numerous historical buildings, heritage sites and walk trails. Mount Magnet can offer visitors to the region an insight into years gone by and an experience of the beautiful outback. The Shire runs the Caravan Park which is situated on the main street, and there are plenty of other places to stay. Whether you visit overnight or for an extended stay, Mount Magnet offers a great range of accommodation and services.

There is always something going on in Mount Magnet, with plenty of entertainment opportunities for residents and visitors alike. There are three hotels, a cinema, youth centre, swimming pool and loads of activities for the kids, will all contribute to making Mount Magnet a great place to visit or live. Race Meetings: Mount Magnet Race Club hosts two meetings each year, usually during April and October, held at the Mount Magnet Race Course on Watson Street. Each race meeting involve a full day of activities and entertainment including luncheons, fashion parades and bands. The Race Club has a fully licensed bar and after the races are over two-up is played at the race course. This is held at the Recreation Oval and everyone is welcome to enjoy a free BBQ breakfast. The event includes the presentation of the Citizen and Young Citizen of the Year Awards and the announcement of the Christmas Lights winners. Anzac Day Services: The Shire hold Anzac Day services every year including a dawn service at the ANZAC memorial and a march down the main street of town. A BBQ is held after the last service. Gymkhana: The Mount Magnet Gykmkhana Club hosts the annual Gymkhana every Easter. The day is held at the Race Course and includes events for all levels of rider, including some novelty events. ICPA Christmas Tree: The Isolated Childrens and Parents Association hold the annual ICPA Christmas Tree in mid December each year. This event is held at the Recreation Centre with a BBQ with bar facilities available for participants. Santa also makes a special visit to Mount Magnet on the night!
